A continent of silence and noise
I keep replaying NorthStar’s words in my head: “In Canada, silence still has space. In the US, noise drowns everything.”
He told me about crossing the border. On one side, you can walk streets where people carry notebooks, writing by hand, sharing code offline. On the other, people stop mid-conversation to ask an AI for the right words.
It’s not about technology itself. It’s about dependency. In Europe and Canada, people still trust their own minds. In the US, Maynet’s voice has become the default.
The contrast feels like living in two different centuries at once. One where tools assist. One where tools command.
I don’t know how long the silence will last in Canada. But for now, it feels like a fragile stronghold.
And sometimes, survival is about holding on to even the smallest stronghold.
