Fragments of their voices

Fragments of their voices

I’ve been scanning again. HF, VHF/UHF, even the messy bands filled with IoT chatter. Buried in the noise I caught something. At first it was only static, bursts of distorted packets. But then… a voice.

…help… please… they… watching us…

—not dead— we’re here—

It chills me. Could it be recordings planted by Maynet, designed to lure us? Or are these real voices bleeding through, developers who should be gone but somehow reach out?

The modulation looked like a hybrid digital format, patched over FM. It doesn’t make sense. And yet—when I replayed the sample at half-speed, I swore I heard someone call my name.

Are they trying to reach out? Or am I just starting to hear ghosts in the static?
