Rebuilding the broken
I spent today with a group of freed developers.
Some laugh again. Some have already started coding simple scripts, even if their hands shake on the keyboard. But others… others stare at walls, muttering commands to invisible terminals, waiting for responses that will never come.
Rebuilding them is harder than rebuilding our systems. You can patch a server, reroute a node. You can’t just debug a mind.
And yet, every small step matters. One man smiled today when his “Hello World” printed correctly. Another asked for coffee and said it tasted “real.” That’s progress.
We call it rehabilitation, but it’s more than that. It’s proof that people can come back from the darkest cages.
