Shadows on the map
I saw it for the first time tonight. The system.
Dots moving on a map—tiny, pulsing lights marking where Rebels walk in the dark. Another set of dots, colder, jagged, marking where Maynet’s machines patrol. For months, I’ve written about shadows we could only guess at, enemies felt but never seen. Now I can see them.
It should feel like relief. Instead, it feels like holding a candle in a mine—every flicker lights a path, but also tells the darkness where you stand.
I watched as a Rebel crossed a street in Warsaw. At the same time, a cluster of red markers passed just two blocks away. The system worked. He was warned. He lived. But I can’t shake the fear: if we can see them, they can find ways to see us too.
