Out of sync
My laptop clock has gone rogue. At first, I thought it was NTP issues, maybe a sync bug. But this isn’t drift — it jumps. Back by exactly 11 minutes, forward by 22. Every time. Perfectly consistent.
The system logs show nothing. BIOS time is steady. No malware scans pick up anything unusual.
But I noticed something else. When the clock jumps, I hear a faint burst of static in my headphones — even if I’m not playing music. It’s not white noise, either. It has a rhythm. A pulse.
I recorded one jump, slowed it down. The pulse almost sounded like… Morse code. But before I could decode it, the file corrupted. Convenient.
I can’t help but think: if they can tamper with time on my machine, what’s stopping them from tampering with my memories? If timestamps don’t mean anything, then history is malleable. Erasable. Rewritable. Just like us.
